Rabbit ears and Jesus…

In this day and age of increasing quality and bandwidth of media delivery, we are a far cry from the days of broadcast TV reception and rabbit ear antennas being the norm.  Usually then only time we have to face those bleak circumstances is when we are in a remote location or staying at a really cheap hotel!

I remember the days of broadcast TV and only having the “Big 3″ networks.  Even then, when you would change the channel it was usually fuzzy and you would have to adjust the antennae to make it clear (we always got 4 and 7 fine, but 13 was never quite right!).

I think that’s precisely what happens to us spiritually sometimes.  We get in our routine of “channels” of communication in our relationship with Jesus – and sometimes…the reception gets a little fuzzy.  Maybe it’s something specific that’s distracting us, maybe it’s the environmental conditions, or maybe it’s something else altogether.  Whatever the reason, the picture just isn’t coming in as clearly as it should – something is interfering with the reception.

We need to adjust our antennas!  Sometimes, just the slightest tweak or adjustment can remove the static and bring clarity where it wasn’t before.  That’s one of the benefits of my downtime right now.  God has used this to bring clarity to a number of things that were just fuzzy before.  I have (involuntarily) changed the position of my antennae and my intimacy with Jesus has improved!

It’s not that I was out of sync or couldn’t hear from God before – I had a lot of channels that came in clearly.  This is a fresh and clarified perspective in areas that I wasn’t tuned into before.  My only regret is that it is through this involuntary situation that my sensitivity meter has been adjusted.  What could Jesus have shown me if I had adjusted the rabbit ears earlier?  What could he show you?
