Here’s a thought for you. God promised Abraham that He would make him the father of many nations. He was looking forward to that blessing until the day he died.
Genesis 18:19 says:
“For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring Abraham what he has promised him.”
God called Abraham to be a leader to his family so that he could become the father of many nations!
I have read over that many times before, but it has never really jumped out at me like this. God wanted Abraham’s priority to be his family. It was God’s prerogative and responsibility to make Abraham the father of many nations.
But not before Abraham was the godly leader to his family.
Abraham had to lead his family – so that – God could do what he promised.
