I can’t wait for June 7th!!!

May 28, 2009

I’m so excited about the Preview Service for Revolution Church that I’m about to explode!!!

It is going to be pretty amazing and I hope you can come!  I have been pretty overwhelmed at the number of people who are using their gifts and want to serve at this event.  There’s a pretty good chance our volunteers could outnumber our attendees!

The space at The Hilton is awesome.  I just have a strong sense that something unbelievable is going to take place.

If you find the time over the next 10 days, would you pray for our core team and the final preparations leading up to Sunday June 7th?  Would you pray specifically for an anointing over the message God has given me?  I appreciate it very much.

See you in 10 days.

To please or not to please…

May 26, 2009

I was part of an interesting Twitter convo the other day that started with an interesting tweet from my wife (@tablewis) that read:

“Question…… Do you need to fire yourself from the job of trying to make EVERYONE else happy? It’s not our job!”

That got me thinking and I asked myself a question that I know ask you. How often do I spend time or resources trying to please or accommodate others?

I’m not talking about the gospel-focused core calling of every believer to represent the abundant life Jesus offers to all humankind. I’m talking about those little moments where we compromise the seemingly innocuous and benign elements and “go along to get along”.

These verses here, here, and here speak to the fact that other followers of Christ have faced the issue of critics and spoke plainly about it.  Our aim is to please HIM not THEM!

Without elaborating on gory details, some people will always have a problem with the way you are doing things. It is interesting that in the “church world” it’s the “church people” who seem to poke holes and hurl accusations.

We all have a choice to make in our relationship with Jesus: we can seek to please him or we can seek to please others – rarely will we accomplish both. In fact, if you aren’t receiving criticism that might be a good check to see if you are really smoking what you’re selling.

No one can follow God’s plan for your life but you.

Pursue it mightily and without compromise!

Ignore the critics.

We play for an audience of ONE.

What drives you?

May 11, 2009

We all have different motives and passions that drive us. They are the “behind the scenes” elements that propel us forward.

Even when the tank is empty, we all have that singular driving force that will command and compel us to dig deeper.

To move beyond the realm of what is and pursue the reality of what can be. These guys all had one thing:

  • For Jacob, his one thing was Rachel. “What shall I give you?” he asked. “Don’t give me anything,” Jacob replied. “But if you will do this one thing for me, I will go on tending your flocks and watching over them:” – Gen 30:31
  • The Psalmist had his one request“One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life” – Psalm 27:4
  • Jesus identified the one thing standing between a certain man’s surrender. “When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” – Luke 18:22
  • This guy told everybody about the one thing he was sure about. “He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” – John 9:25
  • Paul focused on this one thing. “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,” – Phil 3:13

What’s your one thing?
